LaGrange, IL – July 2004 - According to NASS President David A. Wong, “about 80% of Americans will see a health care professional at some point in their lives for back problems. It’s the second leading cause for time off work so most people have experience with it.” So what can you to make sure you aren’t part of that statistic?
Education is key! The North American Spine Society (NASS) created the annual “Spine Health” campaign in order to increase public awareness of the social and economic impact of back and neck pain. March kicks off NASS’ fourth annual public education campaign on Capitol Hill. This year we will be highlighting the importance of taking an active role in your health care.
The Spine Health campaign encompasses; patient education materials, including a variety of information sheets and quizzes; patient education resources available on NASS’ Web site at www.spine.org; and regional special events including a Congressional Back to Health luncheon and an award ceremony honoring the Legislator of the Year, also scheduled in March. NASS Members also conduct local open houses and educational programs in their offices using Spine Health promotional handouts and a “Patient Safety” educational video.
All of NASS’ Spine Health materials are available to the media.
To obtain a Spine Health media kit or if you would like to schedule an interview with a spine care specialist in your area, please contact NASS at (630) 230-3600.
