NASS Releases 2011 Common Coding Scenarios Guide

Print

(Burr Ridge, IL)— To help spine care providers streamline paperwork and receive more accurate reimbursement, the North American Spine Society (NASS) just released its 2011 Common Coding Scenarios for Comprehensive Spine Care.

“This handy reference guide is the definitive resource for spine providers to meet—efficiently and accurately—their unique coding requirements,” said William Sullivan, MD, Co-Chair of the Coding Committee for NASS. “The scenarios are very real, with common indications and symptoms, which will help spine providers more quickly and accurately describe, define and document what they do for patients.”

Using CPT® codes of the 22000 and 63000 series and modifiers, the spine care-specific coding guide features the correct coding for common medical procedures for pain management, injections, radiology and electrodiagnostic procedures. The guide also gives the correct coding for common surgical procedures performed for degenerative disease, deformity and fracture.

New and revised coding scenarios are included in the 2011 edition for sacroplasty, ACDF, instrumentation and epidural injections. This coding guide provides additional coding resources such as the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) 2011 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule, the Ambulatory Surgical Centers (ASC) list of covered procedures, an Operative Procedure Note template, a sample claim appeals letter, Healthcare Common Procedure Coding System (HCPCS) codes for medications and online resources for related spine care organizations.

The 2011 Common Coding Scenarios for Comprehensive Spine Care book can be purchased for $100 (members) or $150 (non-members) on http://www.spine.org or by calling 866/960-NASS.
