Regular exercise will improve your overall fitness and decrease the likelihood of back problems and injury. Different types of exercise offer different benefits. Please consult with your phsycian before starting an exercise program.

For spine fitness, the following types of exercise are recommended:

Strengthening Exercises
Includes core strengthening (which builds the muscles that provide support for your body) and resistance or weight training (which is done against something providing resistance).

Flexibility Exercises
Includes stretching exercises.

Aerobic Exercise
Includes any exercise that raises your heart rate with continuous, rythmic movement that, done regularly, will increase your stamina and strengthen your heart and lungs.

Struggling with Low Back Pain?

Many people are surprised to learn that carefully selected exercise can actually reduce back pain. Some exercises can even provide quick and significant pain relief and speed recovery. Once your pain lessens or disappears, exercise can restore back movement and muscle strength to help protect against future pain.

This NASS video demonstrates and explains simple exercises recommended by physicians and therapists to help prevent and relieve low back pain. View it free here or order your own DVD copy in the NASS store.
