Course Chairmen:
Ray Hines, PA-C, is a board certified physician assistant for Dr. Michael Zindrick, an orthopedic surgeon at Hinsdale Orthopaedics in Hinsdale, IL. Mr. Hines has privileges at several hospitals in Illinois and he is also on staff at Orthopaedics Associates of Kankakee.

Lindley Pittman, PA-C, is a board certification physician assistant for Dr. Mark Lorenz, an orthopedic surgeon at Hinsdale Orthopaedics in Hinsdale, IL. Mr. Pittman is also on staff at West Suburban Neurological Associates and a decorated veteran of the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Air Force.


Course Description:
This is a two-day course for physician assistants and nurse practitioners who want to strengthen their surgical skills in a hands-on lab setting. This course will help attendees understand the need for surgery and will explore a variety of topics including: anatomy, X-rays and MRI’s, prescribing procedures, resources for billing, and post-op concerns.
 

Lab Sessions:
Two lab sessions will cover the fundamentals of working in an operating room, from set-up, to instruments and their use, to incisions and closing.

Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to:

  • Discuss basic cervical and lumbar anatomy and physical exam procedures.
  • Explain indications for surgery and requirements for successful outcomes.
  • Demonstrate surgical table selection, positioning and instrumentation use.
  • Assess hospital documentation requirements, licensing and basic malpractice knowledge.
     

Credits: 

NASS designates this educational activity for a maximum of 15.75 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.

The application is pending with the AANP for CEU’s.

This activity has been planned and implemented in accordance with the Essentials and Standards of the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). The North American Spine Society is accredited with commendation by the ACCME to provide continuing medical education for physicians and takes responsibility for the content, quality and scientific integrity of this CME activity.
