The Socioeconomic Affairs Council oversees NASS’ coding, reimbursement and practice management activities.  It works closely with The Center for Medicare/Medicaid Services (CMS) and private insurance companies to help develop coding, coverage and reimbursement policy for spine care.  It is also the primary liaison to the American Medical Association (AMA)’s committees on Current Procedural Technology (CPT), Relative Value Update Committee (RUC), and other related bodies. The Council also oversees NASS’ thrice-yearly Coding Update courses, taught by spine physicians who are themselves personally involved on the national level in the coding and reimbursement process, and publishes an annually updated Common Coding Scenarios book as a resource to members.
