This OnDemand recording provides evidence-based knowledge to spine practitioners on the different modalities for the treatment of Adjacent Segment Disease. The disease burden of adjacent segment disease (ASD) is growing with increase in the volume of lumbar fusions performed. Understanding the patient characteristics, pathophysiology, biomechanics, clinical presentation, and diagnostic approach to ASD is essential in providing further care to these patients. It provides an update on incidence and risk factors for ASD including patient factors, the level of the fusion, number of levels included, the surgical technique used, and the pre-existing degenerative condition. It provides an update on conservative modalities including pain management and physical therapy. Faculty discuss various surgical approaches including conventional and minimally invasive posterior approaches and whole spectrum of retroperitoneal approaches including lateral approach, anterolateral approach and anterior approach.
This webinar helps spine practitioners navigate existing spinal instrumentation—including stand-alone anterior constructs—by exploring options to work around current hardware, remove and re-instrument, or anchor to adjacent levels using existing implants. In addition, faculty discuss the role of navigation and robotics in the treatment of ASD.
