Degenerative cervical myelopathy (DCM) commonly presents with pain and paresthesia, yet the relationship between these symptoms and their response to surgical treatment remains incompletely understood. Variability in sensory symptom patterns may influence patient-reported outcomes and expectations following surgery.

This article examines distinct pain and paresthesia profiles in patients undergoing surgery for DCM and evaluates their association with neuropathic sensory characteristics and postoperative recovery. Key areas explored include preoperative symptom severity, neuropathic pain signatures, health-related quality of life, functional outcomes, and transitions in symptom burden following surgical intervention.

By analyzing patient-reported outcomes and sensory symptom patterns, this activity provides spine specialists with evidence to better understand the heterogeneity of DCM presentation and the postoperative course of pain and paresthesia.
