NASS has signed on to
AMA Medicare payment system principles, that will guide future advocacy on payment reform. There are three main principles:
- Ensuring financial stability and predictability through a baseline positive annual update, recognition of physician’s contributions in providing high-value care, encouragement of collaboration, competition, and patient choice rather than consolidation;
- Promoting value-based care through rewarding the value of care provided to patients, encouraging innovation, offering a variety of payment models and incentives tailored to different specialties and practice settings, providing timely and actionable data, recognizing the value of clinical data registries; and
- Safeguarding access to high-quality care through efforts to advance health equity and reduce disparities and supporting practices of all sizes in all settings.
