HHS Likely To Extend Emergency Declaration

HHS Assistant Secretary for Public Affairs Michael Caputo confirmed this week that the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) expects an extension of the public health emergency declaration. With the previous declaration set expire on July 25, the extension, which has not yet been officially announced, would prolong the designation by 90 days. Several payment policies and regulatory adjustments are attached to the public health emergency, notably Medicare flexibilities such as easing restrictions on telehealth, as well as liability protections for health care professionals volunteering within their scope of practice.
