NASS Releases Revised Coverage Recommendations for Cervical Fusion

The North American Spine Society (NASS) is pleased to announce publication of a revised Coverage Recommendation on Cervical Fusion. NASS continues to develop and update Coverage Recommendations for various spine care procedures, treatments and diagnostics. Since 2014, the NASS Coverage Committee has developed Coverage Recommendations for 30+ topics and they continue to serve as a valuable resource for spine care providers in promoting ethical and evidence-based spine care.

John Glaser, MD, took the lead in reviewing the available evidence and developing the draft Coverage Recommendations for the Cervical Fusion Revision which reflect the current literature to support medically necessary care for spine care patients. The multidisciplinary and evidence-based medicine trained team of spine specialists across the Health Policy Council and Executive Committee members spent a significant amount of time in reviewing the evidence and discussing these recommendations with our author. The draft Coverage Recommendations were also shared with the NASS membership for their review and feedback. Based on the feedback received from our internal and external reviewers, the Coverage Committee developed the recommendations for this procedure.

This valuable resource is now available on the NASS website. Please click here to access your copy of the Cervical Fusion Coverage Recommendations.

These coverage documents continue to be utilized by government agencies, third-party payors, utilization management groups, spine care providers and patients. NASS hopes these coverage recommendations help provide access to appropriate spine care for all patients affected by spine problems and their sequelae. Access to these coverage recommendations is a priceless benefit to our members.

NASS thanks Dr. Glaser and the entire Coverage Committee for this newly revised coverage recommendations!
