NASS and AMCICO Collaborate in Cancun

NASS had the honor of collaborating with AMCICO on a symposium at this year’s XXIV AMCICO Congress held September 4-8, 2024, at the Hilton Hotel in Cancun, Mexico.

The two-part symposium on “Approach & Management of Adult Spine Deformity” provided a comprehensive update on surgical and non-surgical considerations in treating ASD. Key topics included criteria for deciding against surgery based on patient frailty and risk factors, optimizing lumbar lordosis for alignment, and assessing the need for pelvic fusion in ASD cases. The session also covered techniques and best practices for managing poor bone health and addressed emerging techniques like the prone lateral single-position surgery and minimally invasive lateral and posterior percutaneous surgery.

NASS faculty included Norman B. Chutkan and Sigurd H. Berven. AMCICO faculty included Barón Zárate Kálfopulus, Rogelio Santos Zapata, Miguel Ángel Andrade Ramos and Alfonso de Jesús Núñez Salazar.

This strong partnership between NASS and AMCICO continues to support the timely sharing of advanced knowledge and innovations in spine care.
