On September 18, the House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced the bipartisan
Telehealth Modernization Act (HR 7623) by a unanimous voice vote. The legislation seeks to extend the telehealth flexibilities first instituted in response to the COVID-19 pandemic for an additional two years. Telehealth flexibilities in the package include continuation of removing geographic requirements and expanding originating sites, expanding eligible practitioners, and allowing audio-visual only telehealth services. Next, the House of Representatives will need to take up the legislation or include it in a larger package. Without further action by Congress, these flexibilities are set to expire on December 31, 2024.
