SAS Meeting


Spine Across the Sea is presented by NASS and the Japanese Society for Spine Surgery and Related Research (JSSR). This international meeting will showcase key opinion leaders from around the world providing scientific abstracts and surgical symposia. There also will be companies featuring their latest innovations.

Meeting Format

This blended format will allow attendees to register and attend the meeting in-person in Hawaii or attend virtually from their home or office. Sessions will stream live and will be available to view on demand after the meeting.

Registration Information

In-Person: If you plan to attend in-person, early registration is strongly encouraged as capacity currently is limited to 100 participants due to COVID restrictions. (These restrictions may ease to accommodate more participants.) The purchase of nonrefundable airline tickets not advised.

Virtual: Registration accepted through the meeting dates.

Meeting Registration Cancellation Policy
Cancellation must be submitted via email by June 14, 2021, to receive a refund less cancellation processing fees of $125 and/or guests $50. Registrations can be transferred to the Virtual Meeting after cancellation deadline. No registration substitutions allowed.

NASS reserves the right to cancel, reschedule or modify course/meetings locations, speakers or content at any time and for any reason. For these reasons, registrants should not purchase nonrefundable travel accommodations. NASS is not responsible for costs associated with cancelled travel. Written, verbal or fax notice of cancellation will be given within five (5) working days of the actual date of the program whenever possible.


Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits
A maximum of 18.5 CME credits are available. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are not available.

The sessions will convene in Salons I and II. The exhibit hall will be located in Salon III. The plan is to have an opening reception, however Hawaii regulations do not permit receptions due to social distancing measures at present. The hotel anticipates the reception guidelines will ease by July so updates will be forthcoming.

Speaker Information Desk
Trained staff will be available to assist with any audiovisual needs at the desk located in the Grand Ballroom Foyer near registration.

It is REQUIRED that each speaker visit the Speaker Information Desk to submit their presentation materials or convey any last minute requests at least 3 hours prior to the scheduled symposium start time. Speakers are not permitted to use their own laptops for their presentations.

State, Hotel and Meeting Health Guidelines

  • General session seating spaced according to local health guidelines.
  • Technical exhibition booths spaced according to local health guidelines.
  • Breakfast and break services managed by assigned hotel staff to ensure all areas remain clean and socially distanced. This also will ensure minimal touchpoints by meeting attendees.
  • Currently, masks are required within meeting registration area, meeting rooms and technical exhibition.
  • NASS to provide signage to promote proper meeting flow.
  • NASS will continue to monitor the health and safety requirements; should these requirements modify before the event, attendees will be notified and expected to adhere to the requirements in place at the time of the event.
